University of Manitoba Dental School Requirements

The University of Manitoba Dental program is one of ten dental programs in Canada.

In 2021, the University of Manitoba dental school acceptance rate was 11%. Of the 261 undergraduate students that applied, only 29 were admitted into the program. However, the acceptance rate for applicants who applied from outside of Manitoba is significantly smaller at 2.1%. Of the 144 applicants who applied, 3 were admitted to the program.

All students applying to the University of Manitoba Dental program must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate study. They must include the following coursers:

GPA will be calculated as follows for applicants with two years of pre-dental studies: 

((2 x the average on the CORE courses) + (1 x the average on lowest year) + (3 x average of the best year)) DIVIDED BY SIX

For applicants with three or more years of pre-dental education:

((2 x the average on the CORE courses) + (0 x the average on lowest year) + (3 x average of the best year) +  ( 1 x the average on each remaining full academic years of study)) DIVIDED BY SIX (or seven or eight etc., as appropriate)

In order to be considered for an interview, an applicant must demonstrate a minimum core course average. In the past three years, the minimum core course averages for Manitoba applicants were: 3.70 (2020) 3.60 (2019) 3.60 (2018). In the past three years, the minimum core course averages for out-of-province applicants were: 3.85 (2020) 3.80 (2019) 3.80 (2018).

Only the average of the Reading Comprehension, Biology, Chemistry and PAT scores (DAT average) from the single best Canadian English DAT of the last three years will be used in the calculation of the overall score. 

In order to be considered for an interview, an applicant must demonstrate a minimum DAT average (average of the Reading Comprehension, Biology, Chemistry and PAT scores). In the past three years, the minimum DAT averages were:

  • Manitoba applicants: 18.75 (2020) 18.50 (2019) 18.50 (2018)
  • Out-of-province applicants: 22.50 (2020) 21.75 (2019) 22.00 (2018)

University of Manitoba Dental School Interview:

MandatoryBy Invitation

Applicants will be interviewed using the CDA structured interview. The interview will last for a maximum of 35 minutes and will be conducted by a panel of two individuals.

Offers of Admission Decision:

The GPA, Canadian DAT, and interview scores will all be equally weighted in deciding offers of admission.

A minimum of 25 of the 29 positions in the first-year dental program will be allocated to Manitobans. In 2020, 3 out of province and 0 international students were admitted.
