How each subtest works

  • Apertures: Imagine a solid object passing completely through an opening. It may be turned any way before it starts, but not twisted on the way through, and it must fit exactly.
  • View Recognition: You get two views of a solid (top, front or end) and pick the missing one. Solid lines are visible edges; dotted lines are hidden edges.
  • Angle Ranking: Rank four interior angles from smallest to largest. Compare how wide each opening is, not how long its arms are.
  • Paper Folding: A square sheet is folded, then punched. Unfold it in your head, in reverse order, and pick where the holes end up.
  • Cube Counting: Each figure is cubes cemented together and painted on every exposed side except the bottom. Count the cubes with a given number of painted sides, including hidden ones that must be there to hold the others up.
  • 3D Form Development: A flat pattern is folded into a 3D shape, with the outside of the pattern facing out. Pick the shape it makes.
