All students applying to the University of Detroit Dental School must have completed at least a minimum of 2 years of study (60 semester hours / 90 quarter hours). Students must also complete the following prerequisite courses listed below:

AP and community college credits are accepted at this University.

Four-year college or university courses preferred. If prospective candidates have received AP credits in a prerequisite discipline(s) from their home college or university, they are strongly encouraged to pursue additional upper-division coursework within the discipline for which credit was received- equal to the number of recognized AP credits. AP coursework must appear on the transcript as equivalent to a prerequisite course, not just as general transfer credit.

Preference is for all science courses to have a letter grade, especially prerequisite coursework. If a school has gone completely to Pass/Fail, a letter from the registrar is required.

University of Detroit Dental School Requirements: Letters of Recomendation

Letters of recommendation are required by this University. Three (3) letters of recommendation are required in total.

Two (2) letters from science faculty within non-plant or non-environmental disciplines of biology, chemistry or physics – by whom the candidate has been instructed – are required. A single (1) composite/committee letter can take the place of the two letters from science faculty, provided that science faculty (using the criteria laid out previously) are included in the committee reviewing the applicant.

One (1) letter from a general dentist (D.D.S. or D.M.D.) attesting that the applicant has spent a reasonable amount of time with the practitioner chairside, exploring the dental profession.

AADSAS Personal Essays

This University may take into account the AADSAS personal essay you submit to the ADEA. Your personal statement is a one-page essay (not to exceed 4,500 characters, including spaces, carriages, numbers, letters, etc.) that gives dental schools a clear picture of who you are and, most importantly, why you want to pursue a career in dentistry.
