All students applying to the Dental College of Georgia must have completed at least a minimum of 3 academic years of undergraduate study (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours). They must include the following courses:

*A semester credit hour is an academic unit earned for fifteen 50-minute sessions of classroom instruction with a normal expectation of two hours of outside study for each class session. Typically, a three-semester credit hour course meets three 50-minute sessions per week for fifteen weeks for a total of 45 sessions. The DCG will not honour pass or fail credits. All required courses must be taken on a graduated grading scale (A, B, C, D, F).

Georgia Dental School Requirements: Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) and Shadowing

Having dental shadowing hours is strongly recommended by the DCG. They state that the average volunteering hours seen by accepted applicants is 300, although they have accepted students with fewer.

DCG understands that many candidates were unable to obtain the number of in-person dental experience hours because of the effects of COVID 19.

Dental Aptitude Test: The DAT must be taken within 3 years of the application deadline. All sections including the Survey of Natural Sciences (SNS), Perceptual Ability Test (PAT), Reading Comprehension Test (RCT), and Quantitative Reasoning (QR) will be used by the admission team. If an applicant has completed the DAT more than once in the 3-year window the highest score in each section will be used when calculations are made.

DCG Requirements: Letter of References

All letters of recommendation to The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University must be submitted through the AADSAS service. The applicants for the entering class have two options for submitting letters of recommendation:

Option 1:

  • packet or composite/committee letter
  • a dentist (who you have shadowed)

Option 2:

  • an academic professional (instructor, advisor, department chair, etc…)
  • a dentist (who you have shadowed)
  • personal letter (from academic advocate, dentist, or supervisor)
  • personal letter (from academic advocate, dentist, or supervisor)

AADSAS Personal Essays

The DCG will take into account the AADSAS personal essay you submit to the ADEA. Your personal statement is a one-page essay (not to exceed 4,500 characters, including spaces, carriages, numbers, letters, etc.) that gives dental schools a clear picture of who you are and, most importantly, why you want to pursue a career in dentistry. Shortlisted candidates will be required to partake in an interview with the Dental College of Georgia admissions team. An applicant may be invited for a virtual interview by the DCG Admissions Committee following a review of the completed application. The interview is designed to help assess the applicant’s personality, motivation and ability deemed pertinent to the successful study of dentistry. The entire interview process for this Dental School is unknown.

Dental College of Georgia Offers of Admission Decision:

The DCG’s offers admission for dental school will be based upon a mix of academic achievement, DAT scores, AADSAS essay, reference letters, and results of the interview process. 

The admissions committee for the DCG also considers other factors such as health care and research experiences, leadership, community services or programs, family responsibilities, national recognition, ethnic or cultural backgrounds and commitment to practice in Georgia or health shortage areas.
