NYU College of Dentistry Requirements

NYU College of Dentistry Requirements: Prerequisite Courses

All students applying to the NYU dental school must have completed at least a minimum of 3 academic years of undergraduate study (90semester hours / 120 quarter hours). They must include the following courses: 

Only one AP class per subject; students with AP credits in the sciences are expected to take additional higher-level science courses in that discipline.

Pass/Fail grades for prerequisite courses taken during Spring or Summer 2020 will be accepted. Letter grades are still recommended, if possible, especially in the sciences.

Students with community college credits in the prerequisites are recommended to take additional higher-level courses in that discipline at a 4-year institution.

NYU Dental School Requirements: Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) and Shadowing

DAT and Shadowing Overview:

Dental Shadowing is required and at least 100 dental shadowing hours are recommended. If possible, but NYU Dentistry will take individual circumstances into account.

NYU Dental School DAT Admission Score Statistics:

Applicants are required to take the DAT. Applicants’ DAT scores must be submitted by February 1st in the year admission is sought. The DAT must have been taken within 3 years of the year in which admission is sought. If an applicant has completed the DAT more than once all DAT scores will be considered when calculations are made.

NYU College of Dentistry Requirements: Letter of References

Applicants must arrange for the submission of one committee evaluation letter or three individual letters of evaluation, two of which must be from science faculty members.

This University may take into account the AADSAS personal essay you submit to the ADEA. Your personal statement is a one-page essay (not to exceed 4,500 characters, including spaces, carriages, numbers, letters, etc.) that gives dental schools a clear picture of who you are and, most importantly, why you want to pursue a career in dentistry.
