*A semester credit hour is an academic unit earned for fifteen 50-minute sessions of classroom instruction with a normal expectation of two hours of outside study for each class session. Typically, a three-semester credit hour course meets three 50-minute sessions per week for fifteen weeks for a total of 45 sessions. AP credits and community college credits will be accepted for both required courses and electives.
You must score 4 or above for AP credit for both electives and prerequisites. Additional courses should be taken within the AP credit discipline to demonstrate scholastic ability at the college level.
Four-year-college prerequisites are preferred over community-college prerequisites. Elective online courses, while not preferred, will be considered and must be taken at an accredited institution and accepted at the institution where the degree is being conferred.

DAT and Shadowing Overview:
The Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine does not require dental shadowing experience but highly recommends that applicants have at least 100 hours of experience before applying.

Stony Brook Dental School Requirements: Letter of References
Letters of Evaluation are required by the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. A pre-professional advisory committee letter is required from colleges that provide them. However, if your college or university does not provide a committee letter, three recommendation letters from senior science faculty members will be accepted.
