UIC College of Dentistry Requirementss: Prerequisite Courses

All students applying to the UIC Dental School must have earned a bachelor’s degree conferred no later than June of the matriculation year from an accredited United States college or university located in the US. Students must also complete the following prerequisite courses listed below:

*A semester credit hour is an academic unit earned for fifteen 50-minute sessions of classroom instruction with a normal expectation of two hours of outside study for each class session. Typically, a three-semester credit hour course meets three 50-minute sessions per week for fifteen weeks for a total of 45 sessions. Community college credits are accepted at this University. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are not accepted to fulfill course requirements. Students can take upper-level science courses to fulfill the requirement.

Applicants are required to take the DAT. If an applicant has completed the DAT more than once the most recent of all DAT scores will be considered when calculations are made.

UIC College of Dentistry RequirementsLetters of Recomendation

This dental school requires three letters of recommendation. One committee letter of recommendation will satisfy the three-letter requirement.

The university strongly recommends submitting two academic references, preferably from two science professors. The third letter should be submitted by a dental professional (non-relative) that the applicant has shadowed.

It is expected that letters are on professional letterhead with a signature.

This University may take into account the AADSAS personal essay you submit to the ADEA. Your personal statement is a one-page essay (not to exceed 4,500 characters, including spaces, carriages, numbers, letters, etc.) that gives dental schools a clear picture of who you are and, most importantly, why you want to pursue a career in dentistry.
