UdeS Medical School Requirements and Acceptance Rate

The Université de Sherbrooke Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is one of 17 medical schools in Canada. It is also one of three medical schools in Canada that only teach in French.

In 2021, the UdeS medical school acceptance rate was 7.7%. Of the 2,852 undergraduate students that applied, only 219 were admitted into the program. However, the acceptance rate differs for applicants outside of Quebec and international applicants. Of the 165 Canadian (non-Quebec) applicants who applied, 29 were admitted to the program for an acceptance rate of 17.6%. This number is significantly lower for Ontario applicants. Of the 91 international applicants who applied, 5 were admitted to the program for an acceptance rate of 5.5%.

UdeS Medical School Requirements: Prerequisite Courses

All students applying to the UdeS Medical School must have completed at least 3 years (90 credits) of full-time undergraduate study by the proposed year of entry. In addition to this applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses or their equivalents:

UdeS Med Requirements: GPA Calculation and Requirements

UdeS has a bias towards in-province (IP) applicants over out-of-province (OOP) or international applicants. This is because the university wants students who graduate from their program to serve the communities they studied in. As a result admission requirements are more competitive for OOP/international applicants versus IP applicants.

The Université de Sherbrooke applies a bonus to all students who have successfully completed at least 12 credits in a degree or non-degree program at the Université de Sherbrooke.

CASPer Test: The Canadian Professional Health Sciences test must be taken in French. Only the 90-minute situational judgement test is required. The CASPer snapshot will not be taken into consideration by the admissions committee.

Medical College Admission Test: The MCAT is not required by the admissions committee.

UdeS Medical School Interview:

Shortlisted candidates will be required to partake in a french only interview with the UdeS admissions team. This interview will be used for all only french-speaking medical schools in Canada including Université de Montréal and Université Laval. Interview invites will be given based on the following criteria:

• Overall Academic Rating (CAG): 70%
• CASPer exam: 30%

The format of the interview is Mini-Entrevues Multiples (MEM) This is the same as an MMI Format where applicants will travel through 10 stations each with different role-play, task completion, or discussion situations. Interviewees will be given two minutes to read the situation and seven minutes to do the situation itself. A bell will be rung to notify you that you are halfway through the allotted time. If you are in a role-play situation or a task completion station, the remaining two minutes will be spent responding to the evaluator’s questions in order to explain your reasoning.

Since applicants are not required to submit any supplementary applications or letters of reference before their interviews, use this time to show them who you are as a person and why you would make a good fit for their program. Talk about things such as your past experiences, your motivation, and your community involvement.

UdeS Medical School’s offers for admission will be based upon a mix of academic achievement and results of the interview process. The exact weighting depending on what type of applicant you are differs and is noted here. For most applicants the weighting breakdown is below:

• Overal Academic Weighting (CAG): 40%
• Multiple-Mini Interviews (MEM): 60%
